The Redeemed Christian Church of God has concluded promotion examination for 300 pastors.
Addressing newsmen on Friday, the Director, Admin and Personnel of RCCG, Pastor Olurotimi Vincent Adegborioye said the promotion exercise was to ensure that the pastors do not rest on their oars.
“The exercise was not aimed at failing or denying anybody his promotion; we want to ensure everybody knows and does the right thing.”
“Initially, we were bringing everybody to the Redemption Camp. We then discovered that bringing about 700 people to the camp was not a very wise thing to do; so we decided to zone the exercise. This year, pastors from the East, the South-East and the South-South converged in Port Harcourt for the exercise. We had another group of pastors from the North converge in Abuja for theirs; and the last group from the South-West converged in camp for their examination. With this method, the process is better managed. Before now, we usually spent between three and four days on the exercise; but now, under one day, we are done and the pastors can return to their stations that day” he said.
He said the promotion exercise has also strengthened the bond between the senior pastors and these field officers. “The senior pastors that are screening the candidates now have a different view about the pastors they are pastoring, because they were told what they would not have known about these field officers, during the oral interview session.”
Adegborioye urged the pastors to make personal development a lifestyle rather than a crashed exercise hurriedly done to pass examinations every five years. He said one way the church can grow is for the pastors to also grow. He made reference to the Assistant General Overseer in charge of Administration and Personnel, Pastor Johnson Funso Odesola who takes time out of his very busy schedule to continue studying and earning more degrees, especially at the doctorate level.
The Assistant Director, Admin and Personnel Department, Pastor Nicholas Akinremilekun John urged the candidates to maintain decorum throughout the exercise as any form of indiscipline would attract severe sanction.
The candidates were thereafter interviewed orally to assess their appearance, personality, personal life, core skills, relevant working experience, salvation and discipleship.
The event was attended by Pastors in charge of regions, provinces and their assistants.
